Consultation description

After analysing the results of the consultation on private actions in competition law, we have published the government response and the final impact assessment .

A legal framework will help business and consumers to represent their own interests, challenge breaches of competition law, and get redress.

This response sets out the issues that we consulted on, a summary of respondents’ views, the government’s analysis of responses and decisions.

The government has decided to:

  • establish the Competition Appeal Tribunal (CAT) as the major venue for competition actions in the UK
  • introduce a limited opt-out collective actions regime, with safeguards, for competition law
  • promote alternative dispute resolution (ADR) as an alternative to court action
