Hot Issues

Hot Issues is a bi-monthly newsletter from Manufacturing and Materials (MM) team of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). With this publication we explain what we are doing to create the conditions to promote growth and manufacturing success. If you would like to be included on our distribution list please contact us
Welcome to the April edition of Hot Issues (PDF, 735 Kb) - the newsletter that keeps you in touch with the work of the Department and its partners. This month’s edition of Hot Issues contains a wide range of topical issues of interest.
We feature articles on the Governments Plan for Growth, our latest Design Showcasing events highlighting automotive design and low carbon vehicles. We examine how over 100,000 new jobs will be created and safeguarded by the Regional Growth Fund and how Sector Skills Council (SEMTA), is licensed by government to help improve the competitiveness of 130,000 UK science, engineering and manufacturing technologies businesses.
We look at how the Department has developed plans to change the local economic landscape by handing over power from Whitehall to local people, local businesses and local communities – the people who are best placed to drive forward change for the better in their areas. This was at the heart of the Local Growth White Paper (PDF, 1.9 Mb) published last year.
We also include our regular feature from the National Physical Laboratories who in this issue pose the question “Can we fix it – Yes we can”.
We include many more topical stories.
If you would like to read in detail these exclusive articles and much more please download a copy of our April edition of Hot Issues (PDF, 735 Kb) .
