Metals and Metals Processing

The Manufacturing Materials (MM) Unit work closely with individual manufacturers of ferrous and non-ferrous metals as well as metal processors who produce castings, forgings and presswork. The aim is to build and maintain relationships with key companies in these sectors in order to better understand the issues that impact on their productivity and competitiveness and ensure that their concerns are taken into account during policy development. MM interacts with a wide range of organisations across the UK to improve the business environment and eliminate the barriers to success. These include:

Metals Forum , which comprises of leading ferrous and non-ferrous trade associations and SEMTA, the Sector Skills Council. Their shared aim is greater recognition of the size and significance of metals in the UK. They identify shared issues and common solutions, which in turn enables them to promote their members' strategic and practical interests more effectively. Together their member companies employ almost half a million people across the UK.

The National Metals Technology Centre (NAMTEC) is the UK's research and skills centre for metals technology. The aim is to improve the competitiveness of the UK metals industry by stimulating high technology innovation and research and development. They also provide advice on training and business support together with expert metallurgical advice.

Further information regarding Metals Forum and NAMTEC is available via the links in the external links section of this page to the right of this text.
