LEP Toolbox

The Government is introducing a new approach to economic development in England, which will give businesses and local communities the freedom they need to drive growth. Local enterprise partnerships (LEPs) are at the heart of this.

Formed by businesses and local authorities, LEPs will provide the clear vision and strategic leadership to drive sustainable private sector-led growth and job creation in their area.

We have developed this ‘toolbox’ to help LEPs to pursue their priorities. The toolbox provides information on economic development activity across government departments and sets out possible avenues for LEP/Government cooperation. Once LEPs have identified their priorities, they can use the toolbox to ensure that their work dovetails effectively with activity led at the national level.

To help LEPs and Government to cooperate, we have also provided contacts for each of the areas of economic development activity listed on the left of this page. As well as these experts on particular areas of policy, BIS and DCLG have Relationship Managers devoted to working with individual LEPs on any issues that they might have. Their contact details can be found via the Getting in touch page.

This toolbox is not a definitive guide and LEPs should not feel constrained by the suggestions set out here. The toolbox will continue to evolve as we update it with emerging government policy and new ideas from LEPs for work with Government. We will also be adding examples of where such collaborative work between LEPs and Government has made a difference to local economies.

Please explore the links on the left of this page to access information on government activity, government contacts, and opportunities for LEP involvement.

We would welcome your feedback on how the toolbox can be improved and your ideas for cooperation between LEPs and Government - email andy.dawber@bis.gsi.gov.uk.
