Planning
We know that LEPs are keen to develop their roles in infrastructure delivery as part of an integrated approach to growth. Strategic planning has a potentially important role in helping partnerships achieve their ambitions. The Government announced at Budget 2011 a number of potential roles that LEPs could take on:
- Providing a powerful voice for business in the planning system
- Leading the production of strategic frameworks that identify and align strategic economic priorities and guide infrastructure delivery
- Championing projects and the local area to potential developers and investors in order to secure infrastructure investment to achieve planning priorities for growth
- Producing evidence and technical assessments to inform decision-making
- Facilitating decision making on complex applications.
DCLG and DfT hosted an infrastructure event in April, where partnerships began to consider which roles they might be interested in pursuing. We intend to work with a small number of frontrunners to explore what these roles might entail, and how partnerships might want to develop their approaches over time. This website will be updated with details as they emerge.
