Students

The Government is reforming the higher education system to make it simpler and more flexible.  Students will have greater choice in where and what they study, and will have better information about student satisfaction and graduates’ employability rates.  The reforms will also ensure everyone has access to higher education by putting in place grants for the most disadvantaged and ensuring that undergraduates have access to loans which don’t have to be repaid until they are earning more than £21,000 per year.  These reforms are still subject to parliamentary approval, and more information will be provided as soon as possible.

Fair access

The Government wants to make sure that entry to university is based on ability, not on ability to pay. It is strengthening the requirements for universities to provide grants and creating a National Scholarship Programme. See Ensuring higher education is open to all for a summary.
